As an artist Kris Vleeschouwer makes installations and sculptures with which he manipulates objects and everyday situations. He is the director of a machine that people unconsciously influence and he tipped us about the dangers associated with the anonymous science and technology. In practice this means, Kris Vleeschouwer creates coincidences: as a fish swims past a sensor something happens somewhere in the world, because people walk over a suitcase in Brussels a phone rings in Bern. Passersby do things without realizing it. Interactions are incorporated in non-obvious forms.
In Aardenburg (NL) Vleeschouwer gives his work a new dimension. De Kaai (The Quay), a large paved plaza with a fountain and a dominant Rabobank, challenges him to imagine a framework for his poetic and electronic work. Normally Vleeschouwer works in a room. Inspired by the outdoor location, they chose a sea container of 12 meters, containing an artistic-architectural construction.
The suggestion of port activity is a recurring theme. The former landing of the Zwinvaart will undergo a quite compelling spatial transformation because of the container. It looks as if the shipping container enters the town and thus evokes the distant past of the harbour. Inside Kaai-interventie 2004 creates an exciting image on the packed past and the typical mode of production units.
Concretely
Through a door you enter a sound and display unit where you are subjected to the sensation of docks and shipping. The interactive artwork will be put in motion through a sensor-detector system.
