Introduction

As part of the annual Cultural Week in Aardenburg (NL) Wouter Cox was invited together with other Belgian/Flemish artists to participate in the third art event "Aardenburgse Zomerkunsten".
Visual artists have the opportunity to present art and engage in an interaction with the public in the border village from the 4th until the 13th of July. A route through the visual arts is formed with gardens, monuments, public places, shops and homes.
Wouter Cox became fascinated by a Roman site and got the permission to use it for the temporary art project SPQX.
SPQX integrates itself into the art route and responds to local circumstances. Due to the size and deployment of several other projects on the site SPQX profiles itself as a top local project with a certain autonomy.

Location

SPQX takes place on an unearthed Roman site, a Roman castellum. The remaining and reconstructed foundations follow very tight geometric patterns: a round foundation with a diameter of seven square meters, a square base and a canal.
The traces of the castellum are a great given to make an own contemporary design with a temporary destination.
